Achenkirch is an ancient settlement which rises 916 meters above sea level on the north shore of Lake Achensee and is composed of several villages surrounded by the unspoilt nature of the Achental valley. Whatever is your ideal vacation, Achenkirch will certainly be what you need.
If you love architecture, you will not miss to visit the fifteen chapels and the characteristic church of St. John the Baptist with its picturesque onion dome, in addition to the "Wine House" dating from the fifteenth century, which is now used as a delicious restaurant. A step to the traditional maso Sixenhof is a must, here you will enjoy the museum of local history.
There is an opportunity for fun in every season. During the summer do not miss the many organized sports activities on the shores of Lake Achensee, a boat trip or an excursion in the area, enjoying the breathtaking views.
In winter, the snow becomes the main protagonist. You'll enjoy both skiing and snowboarding thanks to four available lifts and 25 km of ski runs; cross country skiing enthusiasts will appreciate the 60 km of trails dedicated to them. You can also experience the thrill of sledging, walks with snow shoes or a trip on a horse-drawn carriage.
