Bad Hofgastein is an ancient town in the Gastein Valley, very nice and well served: restaurants, hotels, shops and clubs around the large park in the centre of the town, Kurpark, close the pedestrian area where traffic is not allowed.
Bad Hofgastein is situated inside a major ski resort of the Gastein valley. The Gastein ski area in fact includes four villages: Bad Gastein, with the hamlets of Schlossam and Bad Hofgaisten, with ski lifts and slopes of up to 2000 meters. The second ski area is between Dorfgaisten and Grossart, on the slopes of Mount Kreuzkogel. Finally, the smaller districts of Graukogel and Sporgaisten, that in any case lead to a height of almost 2700 meters.
The whole area, also called "Gasteinertal", offers 170 km of ski slopes for alpine skiing, 33 kilometers for cross-country and over seventy miles of winter hiking trails. However, in Bad Hofgastein, skiing is just one of the activities you can do in both summer and winter.
