Flachau, near Salzburg in Austria, is a very trendy ski resort where the après ski is one of the most interesting moments of the day. But even during the day Flachau is much appreciated, especially by athletes, for the great variety of slopes and lifts. Especially for cross-country skiing.
Flachau is located in the largest ski resort in Austria, the Ski Amadè, which includes 860 km of slopes and over 260 modern lifts. More specifically, Flachau is in the Salzburger Ski Amadè area, with 55 trails, 350 km of slopes and 220 for cross-country skiing. In close proximity of the country, there are about seventy miles of trails, a snow park and two half pipes.
Flachau has become famous over the years thanks to Hermann Maier, the Austrian ski champion who has won world cups and Olympic competitions. Flachau, on the Enns River, rises 920 meters above sea level and it is easily accessible from Salzburg. The town is not very big, but the efficiency and beauty of its runways and facilities have made it a popular ski resort.
Its history as a resort is fairly recent: the first ski lift was built only in 1963, but it has now become a favorite place and very innovative. Here was built, in 1994, the first 6 seats chairlift, and in 2004 the 8-seats one, the longest in the world.
Flachau’s Hotels offer excellent hospitality in both traditional and more modern facilities, providing great amenities , services and technology.
