Obergurgl is a small gem at 2000 meters of altitude, in the Austrian Tyrol. Inhabited by no more than 400 people, during the year hosts tens of thousands of tourists arriving in winter and summer, up here to enjoy the beauties of the landscape, sports, and to find peace and relaxation.

The town became famous in 1931 when the hot-air balloon of Swiss Auguste Piccard, the first man to go into the stratosphere, for a failure had to land on the glacier above the town, the Großer Gurgler Ferner. Nowadays, Obergurgl is one of the most popular and exclusive resorts of Austria, with tourists from all over Europe.

Obergurgl, a tiny village in the Ötztal Alps in Austria, offers beautiful ski slopes which in summer become hiking and trekking trails. It belongs to the ski area Gurgl / Hochgurgl, at the southern end of the valley of Ötztal Gurglertal.

The ski resort is snow-covered until late May while on the glacier you can ski almost all year. Obergurgl offers over 100 km of slopes served by 25 lifts, most of which have been modernized in recent years and have been made very comfortable.

When the ski season ends, the town is transformed and becomes a destination for walkers, trekking, mountain bikers, rafting and fishing. Given the altitude, the climate is particularly hard, with temperatures never ranging above zero in winter, while in summer the sun is scorching.
