
Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí) in Prague is a notorious place: In January 1969, during the Prague Spring revolution against Soviet oppression, Jan Palach - a university student - committed suicide setting himself on fire. The square is actually a very wide avenue that the inhabitants of the czech capital call the Little Champs-Élysées.
Wenceslas Square, which is named after the patron saint of the Czech Republic, facing the National Museum and the Grand Hotel Europa, is located near the National Opera. The square is a center for shopping and nightlife. In Wenceslas Square area, hotels have no less than three stars.
