Hotels in Toulon, France

The city of Toulon on the Côte d'Azur is very different from other typical cities of the Côte d'Azur, like Nice or Cannes. Toulon is more like an industrial city with a busy port. Businesses area since a long-time, Toulon is full of life, with many bars, restaurants and hotels frequented by militaries, tourists and businessmen.

The historical part of the town, the Old Town is certainly the most frequented by tourists, with small streets and squares with some beautiful fountains (there are fewer than 18 throughout the city). Toulon has been subjected to heavy bombing during World War II, for which, despite being a city of Roman origins, it has no archaeological remains of value to offer. In the city there are several museums to visit such as the Musée de Toulon dedicated to art and natural history, the Museum of Modern Art and the Musée Naval. Other places of interest are the Cathedral Sainte Marie de la Seds and all that remains of an ancient fortress.

And then of course the port of Toulon, with the charm of goods towards and from all over the world. From the top of Mont Faron you can admire a very nice panorama of the city and the harbor, just over 500 meters high, located behind the town, whose summit is reachable by cable car. At the top of the mountain there is the Tour Beaumont Memorial, in memory of the Allied landings in 1945.
