Villefranche-sur-Mer, a charming resort nestled on the hills overlooking the sea, is a French town of Provence-Cote d'Azur region. Villefranche-sur-Mer, just over 7 000 inhabitants, has been part of the Kingdom of Sardinia until mid-1800, under the house of Savoy. Today, Villefranche-sur-Mer is a wonderful destination that offers tourists, in addition to an excellent hospitality, even places of interest thanks to its medieval and Renaissance origins.
The ancient heart of the city, the Old Town, is a maze of narrow streets and small squares typical of medieval towns. The main places of historical interest are the church of Saint-Michel - dating back to 1750, in Baroque style, with some valuable works as a portrait of St. Michael and a sculpture of the eighteenth century depicting Christ, and the Chapel of Saint-Pierre, of the fourteenth century. In the city there are also some museums, such as the ceramics’ Collection Roux, an art and history museum and the 'des Maquettes Marines' museum, with a collection of model warships.
However, Villefranche-sur-Mer is a typical seaside resort with several beaches overlooked by clubs, restaurants, cafes and hotels. Do not miss a nice walk along the Promenade des Marinieres, stretching along the seafront. Villefranche-sur-Mer also has an important port where also very large ships dock because the seabed in front of the city is one of the deepest in the Mediterranean.

The town is surrounded by hills, from which peaks you can admire the magnificent views that reach the Italian east coast. Villefranche-sur-Mer is located just a few kilometers from Nice and Munich, so it becomes a great starting point to visit many places on the Côte d'Azur. One last little curiosity: in 1971, Villefranche-sur-Mer hosted for a few weeks the Rolling Stones and it is here that they recorded the album Exile On Main Street.
