Berchtesgaden, in the Land of Bavaria, Germany, is a town of the Berchtesgaden Land, tourist resort for skiing and spa treatments at the border with Austria. Berchtesgaden is not very high, just about 500 meters above the sea, but comes in one of the most beautiful alpine areas, at the foot of the Watzmann massif, over 2,700 meters high in the Berchtesgaden National Park.
The town lies at the centre of several ski areas: the Jenner, for the most experienced, the Hochschwarzeck, suitable for families and children, Götschen, where there are several facilities for snowboarding.
In the area there are over seventy kilometers of loops: beautiful is the Scharitzkehl track, at high altitudes in the Massif Gölls, more than seven kilometers to reach Obersalzberg. Other famous ones are those between Hochscharzeck and Ramsau, or the slope of Königssee. The longest, almost 20 kilometers, is between Aschauerweiher and Bischofswiesen.
Berchtesgaden is a true tourist destination with several attractions such as the Schloss, the castle-monastery of the XVI century in Romanesque-Gothic style, the Baroque shrine of 1700, or also the Obersalzberg, plateau from which a private road starts that climbs up the mountain Kehlstein, which was built by Adolf Hitler when staying in the villa of the Berghof. A conduit in the rock leads to Teehaus, a real bunker shelter, which is now a restaurant.
