
Bremen is the capital of the State of Bremen, in northwest Germany. Situated on the river Weser, this is the oldest city-state of the nation, less than one hundred kilometers from Hamburg. Famous throughout the world for the fairy tale 'The Musicians of Bremen' by Brothers Grimm, the city has its symbol in Bremer Roland, the Roland of Bremen, a giant statue that depicts the paladin Roland, placed in the Marktplatz.

Bremen is a World Heritage Site since 2004. The historical centre of Bremen has several important points of interest like the Town Hall (Rathaus), on the Markt square, and the alleys and traditional houses of the Schnoor district. The Cathedral of St. Petri boasts several architectural elements different from each other and houses the Museum of the Duomo (Dommuseum) with religious garments and furniture. On the western side of the hall, there is a bronze monument dedicated to the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tale. From a cultural point of view, the city is home to the art gallery Kunsthalle Bremen, with private collections of fine arts, and the new Museum of Contemporary Art Weserburg.

The main museums are the Museum of overseas (Übersee-Museum) - dedicated to the cultures of countries outside Europe, the Focke Museum - on the history and culture of the city, the Universum – shaped like a whale and dedicated to science with the possibility to experience simulations.
Not to be missed is definitely the Becks brewery, with guided tours that allow you to discover the secrets of beer.
Shopping in Bremen runs through the centre, including boutiques, department stores, small shops of fashion and accessories; among the focal points of the walking and shopping worth a mention: the Domhof Passage gallery, the Sögestraße, Domshof square, the neighborhoods Schnoor and Steintor with atypical shops and ethnic restaurants.
Among the main cultural events of Bremen, one of the most important is the feast of music (Musikfest Bremen) for lovers of classical music, with orchestras and conductors of international renown.
The major international hotel chains are present in Bremen with many structures, both in the centre and towards the railway station north of downtown. Many hotels are concentrated along the Hocstrasse.
