Frauenkirche is a Lutheran church that was severely damaged by bombing during World War II. Up to the unification, this great church in Dresden has been a ruin in memory of the violence of war, but in 1991 the composer Ludwig Güttler collected funds around the world for its reconstruction. The large church is located in the north-east of the centre, almost on the banks of the riverElbe. Frauenkirche was re-opened to tourists only in 2005.
