Duisburg has the largest inland port in Europe and for this reason the city is also called 'Duisport'. This city in the western Ruhr region is also an important center for commerce and steel, chemicals and mechanical productions. Duisburg is also home to one of the ten key universities of Germany, Duisburg-Essen, with nearly 35 000 students. This dual nature, industry and university, the presence of the river port and a large conurbation with several neighboring towns, make Duisburg a very interesting city also from a tourist point of view.
There are many cultural and historical attractions worth visiting, as well as leisure and relaxation options. Do not miss the Lifesaver fountain on Königstrasse, a symbol of the city, the Duisburg-Nord Industrial Landscape Park, the port that is the former 'breadbasket' of the Ruhr where in the past there were grain silos and mills, the Dreigiebelhaus, the Three Gables care home of the '500, the museum of history and urban culture - Kultur-und Stadthistorisches Museum, the Lehmbruck museum - with a collection of sculptures of the twentieth century.
