Esslingen am Neckar, a town in Baden-Württemberg, has a long history; its historical centre boasts in fact more than a thousand monuments, dominated for nearly seven centuries, by the fortress, the Hochwacht. This pleasant German town surrounded by vineyards offers, especially during the summer season, the opportunity to explore the city on the romantic canals of the Neckar.
The most interesting monuments of the city include the church of San Dionisio, dating from the thirteenth century, that stands in the heart of the city with its two towers, the old Dominican convent and the bell tower Frauenkirche, built in late Gothic style. Worthy of note is the impressive Old Town Hall building with a facade characterized by an astronomical clock dating back to 1592.
The neighborhoods surrounding the centre boast ancient aristocratic houses and the famous German half-timbered houses, in particular the pediment of Kielmeyerhaus, which now houses the tourist office.
