
Frankfurt am Main, or simply Frankfurt, is a city in the Hesse region of west-central Germany. It is the fifth largest city in Germany by population and it is the financial headquarters of the nation. Frankfurt is a very lively city, cosmopolitan center of a region very active in the industry, with a relevant cultural activity: in the city there are over 40 museums.
With less than 700 000 inhabitants, Frankfurt on Main River, is the financial center of the country and one of the most important in the European continent. Here are established the European Central Bank, the GermanFederal Bank and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, the third largest stock exchange in the world. The city's airport sees more than 130 million passengers per year.
Frankfurt is a very lively city, cosmopolitan centre of a region that is very active in the industry, with a relevant cultural activity: In the city there are over 40 museums. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born here in 1756 and his birthplace and the museum are the main attractions of the city. It is worth visiting also the Paulskirche building - where the first meeting of the national parliament was held in 1848, the Römerberg and Römer houses in the historical centre - half-timbered houses built on original designs of the seventeenth century. In these houses the first bank in town was founded.

Sachsenhausen is a very interesting neighborhood, survived to the bombing and known as the 'apple wine district', the Äppelwoi, cider. Also worth seeing is the Main Tower, a 200-meter tower with breathtaking views. But the real heart of the city's culture are the museums.
The Museumsufer is a very special place: on the banks of the Rhine there are the most important museums of the city, concentrated in one area. Here you can find everything: the Senckenberg - Research Institute & Museum of Natural History, the Art Institute Städel and Municipal Gallery, the Museum of the dialogue (Dialog-Museum) where you will enjoy sensory experiences in complete darkness, the Jewish Museum (Jüdisches Museum) in the historical building Rothschild, the Historical Museum (Historisches Museum) in Römerberg square, the Museum of Applied Art (Museum fürAngewandte Kunst), the Museum of money of the German Federal Bank (Geldmuseum der Deutschen Bundesbank), the Art Gallery Schirn, one of the most prestigious exhibitions in Europe.
Frankfurt is also a very green city, with nearly fifty parks and gardens. The most famous are the Grüneburgpark, the Bethmannpark the Günthersburgpark the Volkspark Niddatal. And of course, Frankfurt is a city for shopping. Central point is the Zeil area with the Zeilgalerie shopping center. The shopping streets are the Goethestraße - the area of designers, the Berger Straße, Leipziger Straße and Schweizer Straße, the neighborhoods Bornheim (with even pubs and clubs), Bockenheim and Sachsenhausen. The Freßgass is the area of restaurants.
