Fulda, in eastern Hesse, Germany, was built around an ancient Benedictine abbey that still is the main attraction of the city. Fulda, less than 100 km from Frankfurt, is presented to tourists as a beautiful place, with a number of residential buildings in the baroque style that testify the economic and cultural past glories.
The city is well known for the spectacular carnival in the week of the festival called Fulda Foaset, and for a major international event for the market of flowers held in the Schloss Fasanerie just outside town. Historical tourist attractions of Fulda are: the castle in the Renaissance style, located in the Baroque neighborhood, and the Duomo of the eighteenth century, where are the relics of St. Boniface.
The main monument is still the Benedictine abbey around which the city was born and raised. Located in the historical centre, the abbey dates back to 744. Built on the orders of St. Boniface, it has been for a long time the most important abbey of imperial Germany.
