Less than one hundred kilometers from Monaco of Bavaria, Garmisch is a beautiful resort 700 meters above sea level, famous for its social life and because it stages prestigious international ski competitions.
Behind Garmisch-Partenkirchen rises the Zugspitze massif, with the highest peaks in all Germany. The Bavarian town lies on the border with Austria and is one of Germany's most popular winter destinations in Europe.
In Garmisch, the higher ski lift is at nearly 3000 meters: in the district are available more than 100 kilometers of alpine skiing slopes and nearly 30 for downhill. Garmisch is known for the World Cup races of the Four Hills Tournament and for the famous Kandahar downhill ski race. Using the Happy Ski Card you are allowed to access different areas around the Zugspitze, for a total of over 260 km of slopes with 115 lifts.
Garmisch however is not just a ski resort, but it is a holiday destination in summer as well, thanks to dozens of paths through the valleys and woods. Garmisch is a fashionable tourist resort with lovely hotels, boutiques, restaurants and traditional shops where to buy classic Bavarian clothing.

The town is famous for its entertainment choices, but also for some interesting monuments such as the Gothic church of St. Martin, with stained glass and frescoes of the fifteenth century or the Baroque shrine dedicated to St. Anton. In the central streets of Garmisch, such as Bahnhofstrasse, Hauptstraße and Ludwigstr, you can admire the typical houses painted with religious themes, with balconies and windows always adorned with flowers.
Along these roads are the best hotels in Garmisch, the most popular clubs for the après-ski, such as the ancient Locanda della Posta, now converted to a hotel, where King Ludwig II stopped to rest before reaching the chalet of Schachen . One of the most important cultural events in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is the festival dedicated to Richard Strauss, who died in the country in 1949. In the evening the town is crowded with people, pubs and clubs stay open until dawn.
