The most famous monument of the city is the Fountain of Gänseliesel, which has on top the statue of a girl who is considered the most blessed of the world: in fact, all graduates climb up there to give her a kiss.
Other places of historical interest in Göttingen are the old Town Hall, the Market Square, the pedestrian zone with houses of the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries, the cathedral of St. Jacobi, the University with the imposing Great Hall and the collection of Kunstsammlung art, and the city museum of history and culture.
Göttingen’s life revolves primarily around the University and students. For this reason, this is a very lively city, rich in cultural events, but mostly opportunities for entertainment, with clubs and pubs and many possibilities of accommodation in both hotels and apartments.
