Ludwigsburg is called the city of royal palaces, but at the same time it is a simple and friendly city, where guests can stroll through inns and flowered balconies. The historical centre shows many low houses with red roofs, along narrow streets where the atmosphere is familiar and traditional. Over all this, however, stands the magnificent and beautiful castle built in the early 1700 as a royal summer residence by Duke Eberhard Ludwig. It was only the first of a series of mansions that have helped to make the city of Ludwigsburg that of “royal palaces”
This was only the first of a series of mansions that have helped to make Ludwigsburg the city of royal palaces. Every year, the castle is home to the summer festivals Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele. The property has over 450 rooms and is surrounded by a park of 30 acres with gardens, greenhouses with exotic plants, flowers and fountains. Within the park was created the Garden of Fairy Tales, an area where children are involved into a fantasy world inspired by more than 30 famous fairy tales. Near the castle there is another very interesting building called the 'Favorita' wanted by the Duke for his lady, which is now also home to a popular television show in Germany.

It is worth visiting also the home of Montrepos, considered a masterpiece of the Rococo style, with opulent interiors according to the taste of the end of 1700. Ludwigsburg is also a 'simple' city, made up of quiet streets and squares where you can stroll admiring the ancient buildings, numerous churches, where to stay in bars and restaurants spending a pleasant time.
Ludwigsburg loves festivals. The Christmas market, which lasts more than a month, is an event prepared with care. Just as the festival that is held in September in honor of the Carnival of Venice: for a week the city is filled with masks, acrobats, street artists, and especially food stands with Mediterranean specialties. The stalls display also objects from the Murano glassworks.
