The Residenz, the royal palace of the Wittelsbach dynasty, is one of the most spectacular buildings in Europe and is also famous because the entrance on Max-Joseph-Platz is inspired by the Palazzo Pitti in Florence.

The Kunstareal is the art district: here are the three most important art galleries in the city (Alte Pinakothek, Neue Pinakothek and Pinakothek der Moderne), the Lenbachhaus, the Museum of Impressionism, the Glyptothek and the Staatliche Antikensammlungen museums with works of ancient art. The Deutsches Museum is the museum of science and technology, which collects nearly 30 000 objects, and is located on the Museumsinsel Island on the river Isar.
Shopping and clubs: shopping areas in Monaco are mostly in the downtown area, around the central Marienplatz and the grand avenue Kaufingerstrasse. Since 1300, on Marienplatz takes place a famous flea market. The perfect place to spend a typical evening is Hofbräukeller, the ancient royal beer house. The largest area where you can find bars, pubs and clubs is the Kultfabrik, the old and restored industrial area. Young people are found especially in Schwabing, the artists' quarter.
