Oberhausen, in North Rhine-Westphalia Region, about thirty miles east of Düsseldorf, is famous for two reasons: the huge gas storage of 117 meters, now an exhibition center, and the Octopus Paul, who lived in the aquarium of Oberhausen and was famous because he predicted results of the German team. Octopus Paul died on October 26, 2010.
But there is another reason that makes very famous Oberhausen: the presence of the largest shopping center in Europe, the CentrO, with over 200 shops, restaurants, clubs, cinemas and attached amusement parks and nightclubs.
It is close to the Gasometer in an area that in the last fifteen years has shifted from a steel industrial hub to an area of culture, shopping and entertainment. Inside the Gasometer there is a permanent showroom of Christo and Jeanne-Claude. Near the gasometer and the CentrO you will find the Metronom theater, the König-Pilsener-Arena for events and concerts, the Sea Life Aquarium and the Adventure Park tree2tree, with platforms, walkways and nets suspended in the trees, enjoyable through 15 different routes.
In the Alt Markt, the old market area, there is the neo-Gothic church Kirche Herz-Jesu. In the district of the City there are hundreds of stores, restaurants, clubs and the famous Büdchen, typical outdoor kiosks. Some of the busiest and most famous streets are Langermarkstrasse and Marktstrasse.

Another attraction in Oberhausen is the castle of Oberhausen including a museum of modern art. Among the most important events that take place in the city, it is worth mentioning the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, an international short film festival. Nearby Oberhausen, in Bottrop, you can enjoy Revierpark Vonderort, a beautiful and modern building with swimming pool, even of salt water at 32 degrees, saunas, mini golf and amusement park for children.
