Offenbach am Main, a city of the Hesse region, on the left bank of the river Main, is very close to Frankfurt, and it is the heart of the German leather industry. The city is an industrial center, home to major exhibitions like the fair of leather, Lederwarenmesse, and it is known in Germany as the seat of the German meteorological service, Deutscher Wetterdienst.
The city is well connected with Frankfurt by a network of public services and especially by the suburban railway S-Bahn Rhein-Main.
Offenbach has just over 100 thousand inhabitants, but it boasts a long history: in 1977 it has celebrated its thousand years of history. Many buildings in the centre and around the city are evidence of this past that has always accompanied the history of Frankfurt.
The industrial and innovative services, make Offenbach a very cosmopolitan city: 30% of the population is not of German origin and therefore also the pubs, restaurants and night clubs are affected by this multiculturalism. The manufacture of leather makes the city really alive on exports. Because of the proximity to Frankfurt and its high industrialization, in Offenbach there are many hotels, B&Bs and apartments for rent available for tourists and businessmen.
