Zwickau, a city of Saxony, is part of automotive’s history: in 1904, August Horch began to produce cars here with the Audi brand. Horch actually means 'listen' in German, which became the Latin 'audi'. During the Soviet occupation in Zwickau, the Trabant was produced: today in the old factory of the Audi, there is an important car museum.
In addition to this, Zwickau is presented as a lively urban center, restored and renovated after World War II, with several sites of interest. Such as the houses of priests, Priesterhäuser, inside the Cathedral of St. Mary, Dom St. Marine, which are the oldest residential buildings in Germany.
It is also worth visiting the home of composer Robert Schumann, on the Market Square, Hauptmarkt, which is also a concert hall, and Ratsschuldbibliothek, an ancient library.
Zwickau is also a spa resort: there is the Johannisbad spa, decorated in Art Nouveau, where you can spend relaxing moments. Until the seventies, Zwickau has been a coal mining center, which was moved along the navigable river Mulde.
