In the historical centre of Corfu, the old town, visitors should definitely visit the district of Campiello, with its characteristic narrow streets, the kantounia, closed between imposing historical buildings and opening onto squares where you will find interesting shops. Also the district of Spilia is very interesting, with the oldest building in the city, dating back to 1500, in Filellinon street, 18. In town there is a long green strip called the Spianada.
On the island, places of great interest are the palace of Achilles in the town of Gasturi, the old villages Perithia and Sinies, the castles Gardichi and Angelocastro, the villages along river Lejkimi. However, the major attractions of the island are the sea and the beaches. Many are easily reachable by car or by public transport, while for getting to others, perhaps the most impressive, you have to walk on well marked paths above the sea.
There are many pleasant walks all around on the island, and allow to reach otherwise inaccessible places, such as the lagoon Korission, the summit of Mount Pantokrator on which there is a monastery, the area of Paleokastritsa with a beautiful landscape, or the village of Pelekas, 270 meters above sea level, from where you can see the island and the sea all around you.
Some of the most famous beaches in Corfu are: Roda, very popular with tourists, Astrakeri, with its long pier where boats dock, Gialos, with a promontory overlooking the sea, Sidari, equipped beach near the picturesque Canal d'Amour, Drasti, accessible only by a dirt road, Longa, near the tourist village of Peroulathes, Aghios Stefanou, also equipped and suitable for water sports, Arila, very quiet and suitable for family tourism, Aghios Georgios, where you can enjoy windsurfing, Paleo-kastritsa where you can hire boats to visit the magnificent caves, Liapades, very stylish with several restaurants, Ermones, isolated and surrounded by rolling hills.
