
Kos, or Coo, is a Greek island in the Dodecanese archipelago, which lies a few nautical miles from Bodrum, in Turkey. Kos has an elongated shape. About 50 km long and up to 12 km wide, this is a popular tourist destination and seaside resort, where there are archaeological sites of outstanding beauty. On the island of Kos, in addition to the capital of the same name, there are several smaller towns, other popular destinations for summer tourism in particular, such as Tigaki, Kardamena, Antimachia, Mastichari, Kefalos, Pyli and Marmari. The island is mountainous and the main peak is Mount Dikeo.
Kos plays in the triple role of ancient and historic place, a place rich in various natural elements, but also a place of entertainment and social life. With regard to archaeological sites, not to be missed are the Asclepeion, the temple of Asclepius, the greek god of medicine; near the area of Psalidi there is Terma, a place of rest and relaxation with many hot springs and the Tree of Hippocrates, the oldest tree in Europe, where the father of medicine loved to study and muse; the Neratzia Castle, a medieval fortress at the entrance of the port of Kos. But all around Kos you can admire the remains of the many civilizations that have ruled the island - Romans, Ottomans, Italians and Greeks, of course - leaving important findings. Moreover, the Archaeological Museum of Kos, in Liberty Square, and Platia Eleftherias, which preserves treasures of inestimable value.

From a naturalistic point of view, the sea of Kos offers everything you could want. The northern area, more windswept, offers crystalline waters, while in the southern area, there is a calmer sea, deeper and with an intense blue colour. In addition to the above mentioned spa, Kos is also a very green island all around the coast, but has several mountain peaks flanked by rolling hills.
Finally, the most touristic and recreational aspect. Kos is the second most visited island in the Dodecanese, with many hotels, restaurants, clubs where you can have fun until dawn. The sport is very well organized, with the possibility to practice all water sports, from diving, to windsurfing and water skiing.
