Together with Alonissos and Skopelos, Skiathos forms the Sporades archipelago on the east coast of Greece. It is the smallest island of the archipelago, but one of the most popular among tourist, with its beaches, the crystal clear sea and the many possibilities for entertainment.
On Skiathos, besides the eponymous chief town, there are other small towns, including Xanemos, Kalyvia, Koukounaries and Troulos. The island, though small in size, is a popular international tourism destination due to the presence of more than sixty beautiful beaches including that of Koukounaries, famous for a special feature: it is the second beach in Europe with the highest content of iodine. For this reason, on the beach as well as in the sea, are visible glittering crystals that make this location really unique.
Skiathos is connected by ferry to Volos and Thessaloniki, and is also accessible by air for the presence of a small airport. The island has a rather indented coast overlooked by small bays and islands that have further beaches. The hinterland is hilly, with heights up to over 400 meters and beautiful and fresh pine forests.

Especially in the capital, Skiathos, there are many shops and boutiques, restaurants and places to find relaxation and fun and especially a good Mediterranean cuisine. The city of Skiathos (also known as Chora) has the classic white houses nestled in an intricate architectural landscape that hides taverns and restaurants where you eat the best dishes of Greek cuisine based on fish. The city also has a harbor where are moored sailboats and yachts, but it is still a quiet place to walk, in the maze of alleys that citizens love to rejoice with flowers.
