Belváros is the historical centre of Pest, on the east bank of the Danube, between the Erzsébet bridge and Szechenyi. Built mostly in the baroque style, at the foot of the castle hill, Belváros owes its present appearance to the second half of the nineteenth century, when the ancient city walls were demolished and the old Pest started becoming a great commercial and administrative area.
Belváros extends between Kiskörút, the Small Boulevard, and the Danube, and here we find the market hall of Vásárcsarnok, one of the largest in Europe and the plebeian Belvárosi templom, the church of Belváros, one of the oldest buildings of Pest, near the Elizabeth Bridge. Belváros is the most elegant area of Pest: here there are numerous 5-star hotel, but you can also find a more economical solution with 2 or 3 stars.
