Maybe not everyone knows that Amsterdam has three red light districts: Walletjes, the most famous between the Central Station and Nieuwmarkt; Singel between the station and Raadhuistraat; and Pijp, one of the most interesting and multi-ethnic district of the city. In fact, they talk about Red Light District or, as the inhabitants of Amsterdam call it, Rossebuurt.
About the neighborhood there is much to say, not only because it is the place where the girls are proudly displayed in the shop-windows, or there is a concentration of sexy shops, lap-dance and striptease clubs, red-light cinemas, hard-video stores very difficult to beat all over the world, but also, and it is almost a secret, because the area, especially that of Walletjes, is one of the most charming of the city. Walletjes boasts wonderful houses of the fourteenth century and masterpieces of architecture, like the Old Gothic Church (Oude Kerk). The choice of hotels and accommodation is wide: just be aware that the Red Light District is not a place for families with children or those seeking tranquility. Especially at night.
