The Amsterdam Centraal, Amsterdam Central railway station, was built on artificial islands and it overlooks the Het Ij harbor. The Amsterdam Central Station is the centre of the country's public transport network and from there also buses run every 10 minutes connecting to the Schiphol airport. On the front of the station it is possible to take buses, taxis and subway to go to every corner of the city.
Near the station there is the basilica St. NicolaasKerk, dedicated to St. Nicholas, saint patron of the city; the Schreyhoeckstoren on the Prins, a very famous club of Amsterdam and starting point of the red light district of the city. Taking the Damrak, where there are several pubs and cafés, you arrive in the heart of Amsterdam, in Dam Square. Around the station there are many hotels ranging from 1 to 5 stars.
