It covers an area extending from Praça do Duque da Terceira to west Rua do Alecrim, up to the Castle and to east Rua da Madalena. up to the edge of the Alfama district to the north. Baxia has a regular shape and streets (including Petra Rua, Rua Aurea and Rua Augusta) that are parallels and perpendiculars to each other. Among the main sites: Praça de Comercio; Commerce Square; the Ern Arch; Rua Augusta, the main street of the neighborhood, always crowded and full of bars and restaurants.
Do not miss the Elevador da Gloria, which leads to the Bairro Alto (another district of the city), and the Elevador de Santa Justa (or Elevador do Carmo) leading up to the Chiado, in front of the ruins of the church of Carmo, where it is possible to enjoy a splendid panorama of the city.
