
The city of Cartagena in Spain, over 200 000 inhabitants, in the southern region of Murcia, is a major tourist center, which has its most beautiful beaches in the area of Mar Menor and Capo de Palos, about 30 km to the east. Cartagena is an ancient city, land of the Carthaginians, Romans and Arabs with many places of historical interest left by the several dominations.
Among the main attractions to visit in Cartagena are the Great Wall of the Sea, which borders the city's historical centre and which was built in the eighteenth century; the Old Cathedral of the thirteenth century; the National Museum of Maritime Archaeology in the Parque Torres; the Castillo de Concepción; the Town Hall - jewel of modernist architecture of the early twentieth century; the ruins of the Amphitheater in the archaeological area, called in Molinete.
Of particular interest in the city are also all the modern architecture of the early twentieth century, such as those found on the Calle Mayor and the town square, the famous Cervantes and Llagostera houses, the Casino, the train station, etc.. Very interesting and aristocratic palaces are also Aguirre and Pedreño.
