The main feature of the city are the many small houses covered with ceramic tiles, the azulejos. This is a modern city with wide boulevards. The Barrio Ovrero Reina Victoria is particular, as it is characterized by the presence of small single-family houses in the traditional English style: it was built to house the miners of the British company Rio Tinto Company, which had the rights for mining in the area.
The closest airport is that of Seville. Around Huelva there are several interesting places such as the house where Christopher Columbus lived in Santa Maria de la Rapida, and Palos - about ten kilometers away - from where in 1492 Columbus sailed to go to the Indies. About twenty kilometers away you will find the beaches of Costa de la Luz. The main festivals are the Holy Week, the Festival de Cine Iberoamericano in March, the Cruzes de Mayo in May and the Feria popular in August.
