This is an area very different from the others of the downtown and the entire Madrid, because it is made in blocks with streets perpendicular to each other. The district of Salamanca is mainly inhabited by upper middle class of the capital although it remains a very touristic area. Among the most important streets of the district there are Calle de Serrano that begins in the Plaza de Independencia, with the Puerta de Alcalá, where there are exclusive fashion shops, cafes and upscale restaurants.
The Old Town is reachable from here by metro and bus. In Salamanca there is a wide choice of good hotels to 4 and 5 stars. In the neighborhood there are also many places where to spend time in the evening and night.
