Completely surrounded by a single building famous for its 237 balconies, Plaza Mayor is completely made by arcades and under the arcades there are dozens of bars and restaurants open until late at night. At the centre of the square there is the statue of Philip III, but the most important monument is the House of Panaderia with the facade completely painted by allegorical motifs.
In the square take place a colorful market and every Sunday a major exhibition of stamps and coins. The square is one of the major tourist centres of the Spanish capital and centre of important events and concerts during the celebrations of San Isidoro.
