Murcia, a city in southern Spain, is a beautiful town about fifty miles from Cartagena’s sea on the Costa Cálida. It 's a university center, lively and full of clubs, and boasting a rich program of festivals and events throughout the year.

Historic city rich in monuments, this is especially a place for summer holidays: Murcia’s sea is the beautiful lagoon of Mar Menor, over 130 square miles of crystal clear, shallow water separated by a strip of land from the Mediterranean Sea.

The city is dominated by the Cathedral of Santa Maria, a gothic church of the first half of 1400, with a beautiful facade, designed by architect Jaime Bort. The historical centreis built around Plaza Santo Domingo, with many bars and restaurants. In Murcia there are three universities, the Espinardo and Mercede campuses, and the Ucam Catholic University. The city is the destination for Erasmus students.

Other sights include the Baroque churches of Santa Eulalia, with the Museo de la Muralla Árabe, and that os St. Andrew; the Museo de Bellas Artes and that of contemporary art; the Merced, an old church which now houses the university; the Palacio Episcopal on Plaza Cardenal Belluga; the Paseo del Malecòn, a walk near a dam built by the Romans.
