Populous and largest city of the island which takes its name, Palma de Mallorca is the flower of the Spanish Balearic Islands, which attracts tourists from all over the world. The city is an international, manifold tourist center, in which gather beach life, nightlife, congress tourism, resorts and hotels for every kind of guest.
Since Roman times, Palma has represented the center of the traffic to the mainland. The city was then ruled for three centuries by the Arabs before moving to Spain domination. With the discovery of the Americas, the island lost its role as a commercial hub, but over time began to push on tourism, focusing on the natural beauties and the sea.
You can still see the remains of the ancient rulers: the defensive fortification of the castle of Sant Carles, the Bellver Castle which, located on a hill, overlooks the entire city, the soaring cathedral (in which a careful observer will find traces of Gaudi), the ancient Arab baths, a triumph of columns and inlay works that will leave you breathless.
Characteristic is also the Almudaina Palace, which hosts the King of Spain when he visits the archipelago: it is interesting to note that here the Arabic and Gothic styles are perfectly blended. Modernism is rather prominent in the Grand Hotel of Palma de Mallorca, which today houses the Cultural Foundation La Caixa.

Shopping areas for souvenir hunting tourists are crammed in the Born and Avenida Jaume III. The ladies cannot leave without an item of clothing of the Adlib fashion, characterized by natural fabrics, embroidery and laces (which recall the hippie style of the '70s).
The beach of Palma de Mallorca has only one name, renowned throughout the world: it is the s'Arenal, almost five kilometers long, accompanied by a long sideway walk, of course protected by the jagged shadows of palm trees. To the east of the city there is also the Can Pastilla beach, while a few kilometers from Palma there is Cala Estància, blue flag with its blue sea.
