Of particular interest are El Sardinero, a district of the late nineteenth century, built during the development of tourism in the city, full of hotels and restaurants, and hosting several museums: the Museo de Bellas Artes with various works by Goya, the museum house of the writer Marcelino Menéndez y Pelayo , the Catedral, rebuilt after a fire in 1941 which destroyed the old city while saving the Grand Casino and Hotel Real, the Iglesia de la Anunciacion dating back to the seventeenth century, the Lighthouse on the bay, the Monasterio de Corban of the fifteenth century.

Very beautiful places to walk are the avenues of the promenade, the Paseo de Reina Victoria, the Paseo de Pereda, and the Embarcadero Transatlántico area. Santander is also famous for the numerous festivals that are held throughout the year, as the Fiestas de Santiago, the Udi Teatro Festival, Los Baños de Ola, the Romeria del faro with a procession of boats, the Fiesta de la Virgen del Mar and the Mercado medieval with performances by artisans along the avenues of the city centre and the harbor. And of course the International Festival of Music and Dance which for years has welcomed in Santander artists and personalities from around the world.

In the city and the surrounding area there are several green areas such as the Mataleñas and Mesones parks and the Pique and Pereda gardens. In the area of El Sardinero there are the best beaches of the city, while along the main streets of the centre, such as Calle de San Francisco, calle de San Fernando and Burgos, there are restaurants, bars, taverns, and especially shops where you can shop for quality .
