
Santillana del Mar, the Spanish town of Cantabria in Spain, is a resort with several monuments of great interest. On the outskirts of the town there are the famous Caves of Altamira, also called the Sistine Chapel of Paleolithic, which are in the list of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites.
Santillana del Mar is a town of less than 5000 inhabitants, on the north side of the road to Santiago de Compostela. It 's a small town rather quiet, with noble origins and palaces.
The most interesting places include: the Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana, which gave rise to the name of the city, the beautiful Calle Santo Domingo crossing the old town - where you can admire the noble buildings of the fourteenth and eighteenth centuries.
Other sights of interest are the Merino tower and the Don Borja tower, in addition to the Renaissance buildings of Velarde and Valdivieso. On the central square there is the Casa del Águila, the town hall and the Barreda-Bracho palace, dating back to the seventeenth century.
Near Santillana del Mar there are the Caves of Altamira with the Altamira Museum, the city zoo with many animal species, and a number of natural parks: the Nature Park of Cabárceno, the National Park Picos de Europa as well as the Oyambre, Saja-Besaya and Peña Cabarga parks.

Among the main beaches in Santillana del Mar the most famous are the beaches of Santa Juliana and Ubiarco. Next to these there are other centers such as Suances, Cóbreces and Comillas. Several very famous festivals are held in town, such as Cabalcata de los Reyes Magos - on January 1, Las Marzas festa - on March 1 and the Fiesta de San Roque, held on August 16.
