Tarragona, city of the autonomous region of Catalonia in Spain, since 2000 has been declared a World Heritage Site. The city is an important trading port and offers tourists a historical heritage and monuments of great interest.
Tarragona, at the mouth of the Francolí river, was the first city founded by the Romans in Spain in the third century BC. The whole of the Roman and medieval history of the city is a heritage of rare beauty, starting from the Passeig Arqueològic, the archaeological walk, with its great walls, the amphitheater of the first century AD, the remains of the Visigothic and Romanesque churches built in the place where in the III century AD Bishop Fruttuoso was martyred.
Tarragona never ceases to surprise visitors, thanks to the wide range of well-preserved artifacts and monuments, as the remains of the Roman Forum, the necropolis, the Cathedral of Santa Maria with its magnificent rose window on the facade. It is definitely worth visiting the Museu Nacional arqueològic, the Museo de Historia de Tarragona, the Museo de Arte Moderno de Tarragona and the house-museum Castellarnau.
The main streets of the city are Carrer Major or Calle Mayor, Rambla Nova with the Balcò del Mediterrani, Passeig de les Palmeres, the promenade of Playa del Miracle: on these streets are the best hotels in Tarragona, as well as shops, clubs, bars, restaurants and cafes where you will find crowds of tourists visiting the city.
