Tossa de Mar, situated on a promontory on the Costa Brava in the province of Girona - in the Spanish region of Catalonia, is a popular tourist destination and seaside resort. Tossa de Mar is characterized by the enclosure walls and towers built between the twelfth and fourteenth century to defend against attacks by pirates. One of the peculiarities of Tossa de Mar is a centre that is very popular among Spanish and international artists.
The hostorical centre, the Old Town, has been declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument in 1931. The castle with the walls is one of the most interesting landmarks of Tossa de Mar. Other places to visit are the Gothic ruins of the ancient Parish church and the Museu Municipal, initially an archaeological museum and then completed with collections of great artists including Chagall.
Tossa de Mar is famous for its beaches along the promontory on which it stands. The village is located very close to Lloret De Mar, another important tourist destination. The white beaches, always crowded, are Cala Futadera, Cala Bona, Platja Gran and Mar Menuda.

The medieval part of the town is called Vila Vella, while the more touristy part is called Vila Nova. This is the area along the beach where there are the best hotels and restaurants. On this strip of land are concentrated most of the attractions and opportunities for leisure activities and sports. In the evening you can enjoy the open restaurants and bars and the whole area becomes very dynamic and full of life. The fun is also on the beach and in the many coves as Giverola, Salions and Pola.
