Zermatt, municipality in the Swiss canton Valais, over 1600 meters high, is a charming village overlooking Mount Rosa and the Matterhorn, which in Italy is called Cervino. Zermatt is one of the main ski resorts of Switzerland and the Alps.
Zermatt is the home of Alpine skiing, with dozens of ski lifts leading the lovers of winter sports to almost 400 km of slopes. The ski resort of Zermatt is extended to Italy in Valturnanche: among the most spectacular cross-country pistes, there is that of the Little Matterhorn (from 3900 meters) leading through the glacier Platou Rosa directly into the village.
In addition to the modern lifts, Zermatt has an express train that travels the way up to Gornergrat, share over 3000 mt, reaching several intermediate stations from which lifts and runs depart: Riffelalp, Riffelberg (especially for beginners and children), Rotenboden (with toboggan runs), and Gornergrat, where there is the highest hotel in the Swiss Alps, the Kulmhotel Gornergrat
The connection to the Valturnanche and then Cervinia, is assured even in the summer on the snowy slopes of over 30 km. The large area of the Matterhorn Ski Paradise extends from Rothorn Paradise and Gornergrat to the famous Matterhorn Glacier Paradise for a total of over 280 Km of runs. In the area of the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise you can enjoy skiing 12 months a year thanks to snowmaking.

The cross-country skiing areas are between Täsch and Randa, while guided by the Alpin Center guides you can hike two or more days on the Haute-Route to reach Chamonix. But perhaps one of the most beautiful experiences you can do in Zermatt is beteween Gornergrat and Riffelberg, in the land of igloos (Iglu-Dorf), where everything - from bars, restaurants, hotels, shops and wellness centers are housed in traditional Eskimo ice igloos.
